Favorite Teacher Video Contest: ‘Make Your Mark’ by Ohio University

If you are a high school student who happens to have a favorite teacher, take your camcorder and feature her/ him.

Content: show how your high school teacher affects your life in a positive way.

Eligibility: high school students from Lawrence, Scioto, and Gallia counties in Ohio, Cabell, Wayne and Putnam counties in West Virginia and Boyd, Greenup, Carter, Lewis, Elliot, Fleming, Lawrence, Rowan and Mason counties in Kentucky.

Deadline: April 29 2008

Prize: the winning teacher will receive an amazing prize, & his or her classes will also be treated to a pizza party.

Video Contest for Law Students: One Less Worry

Student lender Access Group has launched its video contest. The Access Group a nonprofit student loan company “helping law students like you achieve your hopes and dreams with no worries.

Content: share what worries you in a video (4 min) uploaded on youtube!

Eligibility: Contest is open to legal US residents 18 years of age or older who are law students (enrolled or matriculated as of August 1, 2008) and candidates for law degrees (JD or LLM) at tax exempt law schools in the United States (includes the 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico).

Prize: you could win $10,000 for your law studies

‘Dance. Don’t Chance’ Video Contest for Safe Driving

‘Dance. Don’t Chance’ Video Contest aims to push safe and sober driving in Massachusetts – in the prom and graduation season.

Eligibility: registered high school juniors and seniors across the state of Massachusetts

Deadline: April 17 2008

Content: make a 1 minute video to promote safe driving and discourage underage drinking

Prizes: dream prom and getting their video aired across the state as a public service announcement, from AAA of Southern New England, non-alcoholic beverages provided by Glacéau Smartwater®, free transportation on prom night from Boston Limo, and free tuxedo rental from MW Tux.

Statistics: according to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, 180 junior operators are suspended every week due to reckless driving under the new junior operator’s license law. Teenagers, aged 16 to 19 years old, account for the largest number of motor vehicle injuries overall, and motor vehicle injuries among teens in Massachusetts tend to be highest in the months of May and June.

There’s a natural abundance of web video contests – most of them are limited to US legal citizens, but a couple of them are open to all over a certain age (usually 18).

Take a look at the current video contests on the web in the Video Contest Calendar, and pick the one that suits your style and fires your inspiration. Prizes are great (up to $25,000), but entering a video contest in itself is simply a great learning experience and fun!
